Madagascar's central highlands are covered by sub-humid forests. Due to deforesting and slash-and-burn agriculture methods, large areas have become clear for cattle-grazing and rice cultivation.

Plants and Trees
Various kinds of Euphorbia, the Aloe vera plant, and the impressive Elephant's foot can be found in the mountains surrounding Tsara Camp.

Lemurs
Several groups of Ring-Tailed Lemurs inhabit the south-eastern plateau of the Andringitra Mountains and Tsaranoro Valley.

Mammals
The Highland Streaked Tenrec is endemic to the island and lives in the central upland regions.

Birds
Various species of birds can be observed and heard in the surrounding area.
